Image result for chizzy odilinyeThe greatest influence on my childhood was not my mother’s incessant instructive voice nor my father’s mild reprove. It was the ever-increasing number of African Writers Series they bought for us; the children. My favourite writers were Ngugi Wa Thiong’o and Chinua Achebe.

Shortly before his death, Achebe in an interview said these words: “Until the lions have their own historians, the history of the hunt will always glorify the hunter.” This is one of my best quotes from Achebe and the motivation behind starting Speak Out Africa (SOA).

SOA is a blog tailored to tell African stories through politics, poetry and photography. Here we discuss topical issues affecting Africa such as child-bride problems, failing infrastructure, female genital mutilation, domestic violence and other political issues as they arise. We believe our voices can and should be heard. We also celebrate our victories as a continent as we seek lasting solutions to our prevailing problems.

Your host, Chezugolum Odilinye Nwokoye (Chizzy), is a Petroleum Engineer with an International Oil Company (In her dreams). She intends to major in gas Engineering as her contribution to solving Nigeria’s perennial power problems.
